Betting is entertainment, not a way to make money. Most people who bet lose money over time. That is how the maths works, and no strategy, tip service or ID provider changes it.
Rules worth setting before you start
- Decide your limit in advance – an amount you can lose without it affecting anything that matters.
- Never chase a loss. Increasing stakes to recover a losing day is the single most reliable way to turn a small loss into a serious one.
- Never bet borrowed money – not from a bank, an app, a friend or a credit card.
- Set a time limit as well as a money limit.
- Do not bet to escape stress, boredom or low mood.
- Never bet under the influence of alcohol.
Warning signs
If several of these are true, it is worth stopping and talking to someone:
- Betting more than you planned, or more often than you planned
- Chasing losses with bigger stakes
- Hiding your betting from family or friends
- Borrowing money or selling things to fund it
- Betting money set aside for bills, rent or family
- Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not betting
- Betting is affecting your work, sleep or relationships
